Country Villa Watsonville East & West Celebrate Upgrade
September 19, 2011
Staff and residents of Country Villa Health Services Watsonville East and West celebrated a major makeover of their Auto Center Drive facilities Thursday. City officials, businesspeople and community members were welcomed with live music, champagne, wine, sparkling cider and catered food at the two-hour event.
“We are very pleased with our new interior,” administrator Rae Ann Radford said. “We had all our interior surfaces painted. We upgraded our floors. We got new electric high/low beds and a state-of-the-art fire control system.”
As seniors danced with staff on the shiny floors, newly refurbished nurse stations, with new granite surfaces, boasted fresh bouquets of flowers that were illuminated under new lights.
Radford said the remodel project, which began in 2008, cost $1 million.
Roof and plumbing work are next on the work order.
Currently there are 81 residents living at the east wing and 84 in the west wing. Country Villa in Watsonville employs 200 people.
“I think the place looks fantastic,” said resident Yoshiko Hiraga, who said she was born in Watsonville in 1925 and has lived at Country Villa for the past six months. “They sure did a great job. The new floors are so shiny. It turned out very nice.”
